Strange Weather

For February, the weather has been unusually warm. This makes us happy! Owen and I have been on several walks over the past few days... trying to take advantage of the warm weather before it disappears to winter again. Or, maybe we'll luck out (like last year) and we'll roll straight into spring.

I am starting to see the difference in Owen's size now (compared to one month ago). Actually, he is starting to outgrow some of his clothes! It is amazing to me to think of him as any bigger than when he was born - he is still so tiny. We do look forward to him growing - especially to see him able to hold up his neck, smile and do other fun baby tricks. Soon enough, I'm sure -- and then I'll want him to be little again!

Speaking of tricks, we learned a new one to help soothe Owen: the vacuum cleaner! When he starts to wail, we turn on the vacuum and within seconds he stops crying and his whole body softens. It is a real wonder. I hope that the calming effects of the vacuum last. I try to use that "trick" judiciously because I want to have it as a fail-safe in case all other attempts fail.

The vacuum eh? What an odd coincidence, or perhaps not really so. You see, the only the thing that would make me stop crying when I was a babe was the cold and empty vacuum of Space! Perhaps taking "in space, no one can hear you scream" too literally, my mother would often hurl me out the airlock into the sterile, frigid void to cease my incessant crying. Small wonder I've grown up emotionally icy and with a great aversion to alien spacecraft.
