Owen's First Trip to NJ

Sorry it's been a while since the last post... however, many of you were able to see Owen in person since the last blog entry. For those of you who didn't here's a report on our travels.

Owen's and my adventure began on Friday. We enrolled in a post-natal "yoga" class. I went to yoga throughout my pregnancy and thought it would be good now -- if only to get out of the house. During each session there is a mix of stretching for moms and babies. Owen enjoys the time - and so does Mom. After class on Friday, we joined a few other moms and babies for lunch. It was nice to meet some other moms and talk - both about baby and adult stuff.

Saturday morning the whole family - Scott, me, Owen and Rocco - shoved off for NJ. We traveled (the long way) to Brick, NJ to visit my grandmother. She was thrilled to see Owen. However, the car ride made Owen quite cranky while we were there and he wailed most of the evening. It was probably a combination of too much sleep, too little nursing and a new environment. All Owen's crying made my grandmother uncomfortable. She was always wanting us to give him more "drops" (anti-gas) - and at one point she wanted us to call the pediatrician! She just didn't want poor little Owen to be sad :(

One of the best parts of the visit to NJ was the pizza. Of course we had to have pizza (diary restriction or not). Yummy... we ate pizza and mussels marinara. That alone is worth the 4+ hour drive!

Uncle Eric was nice enough to drive down to Brick to visit with Owen since he was going to Vermont to go skiing on Sunday... even though Owen was a cranky-pants the whole time.

On Sunday morning, my Uncle Peter came by - with bagels :) After breakfast, the family packed up and headed to Oxford, NJ to visit my parents.

Grandma and Grandpa G's house became the meeting ground for lots of visitors. Scott's Aunt Patti and Uncle Emil came by first. We were thrilled to introduce Owen in person to Scott's family. A few of my parents' neighbors also stopped by. They are all so happy for my parents (and us). Next came Dieter (Scott's dad) - with his ski pole as a crutch after hurting his knee the day before skiing. Finally, my cousin Laura (all the way from Atlanta) and my friend Angie. We all spent the evening getting to know Owen and catching up. It was great - especially for me since everyone wanted to hold Owen (my arms got a break for one day!).

We are now back home and trying to get back into the rhythm of things. Owen takes a bit of time to readjust (in other words, he was quite cranky last night and part of today).

I had my 6 week check-up with the midwife today and was given a clean bill of health. Although I have to go to my general doctor to get re-tested for diabetes. We'll all have to cross our fingers that that test is ok.

Midwife? Is it 1850 again? Or am I thinking of a wet nurse? Ah well, what the hell do I know about babies. Not much evidently. But I do know about pizza, or as it was uncooly referred to in 1999 for a sad six week period following the success of "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place", 'Za.
They don't have pizza down there in the greater DC area? That is a subject for debate I think. Perhaps you've never gone to K Street's famous Pizza House of Representatives. It's all the rage among us politic junkies. All the pizzas on the menu are named for famous political figures. I've personally eaten a Tom Daschle slice (its an extra cheese pie with finely powered parmesean on it)while James Carville and Barbara Boxer discussed Putin's support for the original winner of the discredited Ukrainian election and his announcement last week that he does not believe Iran presents a nuclear threat! Oh the good times they do roll at the Pizza House of Representatives! Sadly I got there late and had to sit next to some Haliburton executives and Dick Chaney the murderous cyborg. Next time I'm down, I look forward to going to the new Make Your Own Burrito Bar and getting a Spicy Condeliza Rice and Bean burrito.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Did anyone see that special on Animal Planet about those Super Ants? Apparently they can strip a cow of it's flesh in five minutes! They've also been known to post on this blog without using capital letters, as in the post above. Look out.
