Sorry it's been a while

So... what has happened in the last few days? A lot and not so much...

We just got back today from a trip to Richmond to go to Alycia's wedding. It was our first trip to Richmond (that counts for all of us, not just Owen). The wedding was on the outskirts of the city in an old, restored mill. It was a beautiful setting for a wedding and gave us a good chance to get away from the hustle and bustle we are used to here in NoVA.

The wedding was a wonderful event. Alycia looked beautiful and it was clear the couple were deeply in love. I was worried about bringing Owen to the wedding and reception... I didn't want to be the mother who brought the screaming child to the party. Happily, Owen was on his best behavior. Only once did he cry out... and it wasn't his fault! Alycia's brother sang a song during the wedding ceremony. The song was a ballad and at one point he sang a really high note that startled Owen (and the other children) and he let out a little cry. Since I sat right next to the door, I quickly ran out of the room so I didn't interrupt the song but Owen was fine. He just got scared and was back to sleep in a few seconds. During the rest of the reception he was very happy. He must have enjoyed all the ambient noise from conversation and music. Still, we called it an early night and went back to the hotel around 9pm. It might have been that we were just as - or more - exhausted than Owen.

Today we met Kasey in Richmond for coffee. It was a good chance to see Richmond - or at least one neighborhood called Carytown. The day was a very nice spring day so it was good to walk around and get some sun. It was also good to see Kasey and catch up... we always have a good time and I am happy we've been able to keep in touch all this time.

Here's a funny story that sums up how crazy last week was for me. Early in the week, I had a carpet cleaning service come by to give an estimate for our home. They gave an estimate and we accepted; they said they'd come the next day to clean. At about 9:45am the next day, they came and cleaned the rugs. I was concerned about the cleaners they used to clean the carpets so just as soon as they finished, Owen and I went out to run some errands. I went to the library and then the bank. After I got out of the bank, I looked at my Blackberry to find a phone number and an alarm popped up saying I had an appointment. I thought to myself: "no, that appointment is tomorrow." It was weird, the appointment was for 3/16 and my Blackberry said it was 3/16... but my mind thought that couldn't be right; it was Tuesday, not Wednesday. So then I checked my cell phone. It also said it was Wednesday, 3/16. Still in disbelief, I had to call Scott to confirm! He did so (all the while thinking I was crazy) and then I hustled off to my appointment just in time. Somewhere in between carpet cleaning, nursing, diapers and other new mom duties I lost a day!

This week has less planned so I should do ok! I hope so :)

And, by the way, the important stats I keep forgetting to share. At Owen's 2 month visit last week he was weighed and measured. He is now 23 inches long (50 percentile) and 13 lbs. 10 oz. (90 percentile). The pediatrician was pleased with his growth so far - and so are we!

Submitted for your approval. The portrait of an over extended housewife and mother who’s manic life is helpfully managed. Helpfully managed by a friendly, digital scheduling device. In just a moment this little device will help organize her day so much that she may go to the library to catch up on some much needed reading. But do our electronic friends feel overworked and unappreciated too? Be warned, because when they do, they rebel and you may find you indeed have another appointment, in the Twilight Zone.
