Since only a few of our readers bothered to respond to our 1st "reader poll," I figured not many would mind if we didn't post for a few days! Yes, that is my best at sending you all on a guilt trip (no, I'm not very good at it).
A lot has transpired since my last post. I'll have to sum it up rather than give details. My story telling skills are not so good.
OK... Owen and I went to NJ for the weekend. On Saturday, we went to my cousin Kimberly's bridal shower during the day and then had mother's day dinner with my family, Joan & Don, Opa, Michel, Tim & their kids followed by dessert with Angie and Marcel. On Sunday, Owen and I traveled to my grandma's house and spent the day with her before leaving on Monday. The trip was a good one. Everyone was happy to see Owen and helped out a lot. It was a good break for my arms and lower back!
Unfortunately, Owen brought home a bug with him from NJ. He has a mild eye infection and a cold. On Tuesday (back in VA) he was not quite right and then that night he was miserable. He wouldn't sleep for more than 30 minutes and would wake up screaming. I didn't know what was wrong with him and thought maybe he broke something. I felt all around to see if I touched something it would make him cry. Nothing happened. Finally when morning came I saw he was crusty and knew for sure it was a cold. The pediatrician gave him some antibiotics for his eyes and said the rest would have to just pass (a virus).
Owen seems to be feeling better already. Must be that wonder-milk he's drinking ;)
In other news, the countdown to back to work is in single digits. Next Wednesday is when life gets turned upside down again. I absolutely dread the day. I could rant for hours about how much I don't want to leave my little man... but I am sure none of you want to hear about it.
Anyway, the childcare situation has become a very stressful one. Our family daycare provider fell through at the last minute. She accepted another infant - a family friend - and therefore can't watch Owen (only allowed 2 infants by permit). I am so upset because we had made this arrangement months ago and had a contract. Frankly, she screwed us.
I had already started a search for a nanny but wasn't rushing it since I had the family provider. Now I am in high gear. We have two potential nannies but the decision about who to hire is so difficult. If it weren't difficult by myself, I have partnered with another family who needs a nanny on the days I don't (this is a good plan because many nannies only want full-time work). Now I need to find a nanny who is good for both of us. To say I feel stressed about this situation would be a complete understatement. I just keep thinking that whatever we choose does not have to be permanent and that many families before us have gotten through this... so can we.

Owen picked up a bug and woke up screaming? I'm not surprised. A bug caused me to wake up screaming once. In that lightless crypt of a room in Morristown, twice I was stung by bees that had made their way into my bed. The third time however was a different vistor all together. Indeed, a huge rhinocerous beetle disturbed my drunken slumber by crawling on my ass! What drew that giant coprophage to my bed I'll never know but imagine the shock and horror of waking to the scratchy plodding of a thumb sized scarab as it meanders slowly across the landscape of your pasty white ass! Imagine also the site of me, clad only in threadbare tighty-whitey's so thin you could read a newspaper through them, launching this midnight marauder into my yard from an old pill bottle I had captured it in. Perhaps it was this bug that Owen picked up from NJ. So the much the better for me, I think it wants revenge!
